Built in 1929 as the exclusive Medinah Athletic Club, the opulent building at 505 North Michigan Avenue was constructed with larger-than-life architectural details: a bronze doorway, marble columns, a grand staircase, cast-bronze friezes, and painted ceilings. Long before the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile opened, our opulent building at 505 North Michigan Avenue was the city’s preeminent athletic club so, not surprisingly, health and wellness are in our DNA. Though the Medinah Athletic Club’s original facilities are long gone, some striking features remain, including our massive junior Olympic swimming pool complete with its original 1920s-era Spanish Majolica tiles.
