Hotel History
The Cow Path at 100 W Monroe in Chicago is a remnant of the city's rural past. In 1844, a farmer named Willard Jones sold a portion of his land but retained a narrow strip, 10 feet wide, to move his cattle from his farm to pasture. This 'cow path' became a legal easement, and despite development, it remains to this day. The Hyatt Centric The Loop Chicago was built incorporating this historic path, with an 18-foot-high tunnel through the building. It's a quirky reminder of Chicago's transformation from farmland to metropolis.
