Hotel History
Nestled in the heart of downtown Seattle, Hotel Theodore boasts a rich history dating back to its original construction in 1929 as the Roosevelt Hotel, named after the 26th U.S. President, Theodore Roosevelt. Conceived by local visionaries, the hotel was built using the finest materials and craftsmanship the Pacific Northwest had to offer, with all elements of its operations and design sourced from Seattle firms or within Washington State.
In 2017, the hotel underwent a stunning $34 million renovation, reimagining its historic charm while embracing modern luxury. As Hotel Theodore, we honor the city's long tradition of makers, builders, and doers, paying tribute to Seattle innovators, both past and present.
Our hotel features an inspiring collection of photography, patent drawings, and artifacts curated in collaboration with the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI), displayed on each guest room floor. Designed by John Graham Sr., one of Seattle's prominent architects, who is also responsible for the iconic Space Needle, Hotel Theodore stands as a testament to the city’s rich architectural heritage and creative spirit.
