The Intercontinental New York Barclay is a hotel with a rich history and a great location. It’s popular amongst our couples who are getting married in Long Island City at venues like the Metropolitan or the Foundry but want a Manhattan hotel and it’s popular as a midtown Manhattan hotel since it’s close to Bryant Park, Gotham Hall, Central Park, the MoMa and 620 Loft & Garden.
One of the reasons why it’s so popular is because being a larger hotel they’re very competitive with rates, can accommodate larger groups including with their venue space but also the hotel still has a lot of character.
Why we know you’ll love it?
Let’s start with the design. The hotel is unique in its Federalist style decor and long history dating back to the 1920’s when the Vanderbilt family funded the building of The Barclay. That history has been preserved, the hotel feels like a mansion from the Great Gatsby era but with a $180 million renovation, it’s also been brought into the 21st century. It’s beautiful and we especially love the grand staircase with the black and white tile the moment you want into the lobby. Combined with the coffered ceilings, it’s simply stunning.
You’ll also appreciate their new Covid-19 policies. Aside from following all the recommended rules such as social distancing, sanitizing, masks, limiting capacity, etc. The hotel has also implemented higher air quality control replacing filters more often. They’ve also brought in cleaning products with a higher concentration of bacteria-killing ingredients (per CDC guidelines) and they clean high traffic areas more often. They’ve also made telemedicine available and for catering they’ve added the option of having pre-packaged meals.

We have yet to mention the suites, but the hotel has lots of suites plus with wedding room blocks, you can get a free upgrade to a suite based on the number of rooms you book. In general, their wedding package is generous, they have great discounts, offer IHG rewards points, waive amenity fees, they don’t charge a cancellation and because they have guest rooms, suites and venue space, it’s a one-stop shop for your wedding.
